Mr Ali Ghanem MPhil MSc MRCS(Ed) MRCS(Eng) MD PhD

Mr Ali Ghanem obtained his Doctorate in Medicine from Damascus University. He received his undergraduate education at Medical Schools of universities of Damascus, Manchester, Oxford and Edinburgh. Mr Ghanem is also qualified in Medical Law and Ethics (Glasgow University), Surgical Science (Distinction – University of London) and Management (London School of Business and Finance). He completed his basic surgical training at the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and England. He was awarded  a Doctorate in Philosophy (PhD) in Developmental and Stem Cell Biology at University College London working on molecular regulation of embryonic stem cells early differentiation under the supervision of Professor Claudio Stern. His academic work was recognized by many prestigious prizes and awards such as The Arnold Huddard Medal of the Craniofacial Society of Great Britain and Ireland, Education Excellence Innovation Award from London Deanery was recently honored by the Pan Arab Association of Burn and Plastic Surgery.

Mr Ghanem is was appointed as a clinical senior lecturer following his academic clinical lecturer training in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at Barts and the London School of Medcine and Dentistry – Queen Mary University of London. During this period he developed two main research interests; motor skills acquisition and assessment and aesthetic medical sciences educaiton. He is Consultant in Medical Education Development to the International Medical Education Trust (IMET 2000) and the Course Lead of the Master Programme in Aesthetic Medicine and Reconstructive Microsurgery.

 

Mr Ioannis Goutos BSc(Hons), MBBS(Hons), MSc, FRCS[Plast]

Mr Ioannis Goutos qualified at the Royal Free and University College London medical school in 2002 attaining a distinction in Surgery at the final MBBS examination.  As part of his medical studies, he also completed a BSc degree in Molecular Medicine with Basic Medical and Clinical Sciences securing a 1st Class Honors alongside the Goldberg Schachmann award.   He completed his basic surgical training at Chelsea & Westminster Hospital, London and acquired a Plastic Surgery national training number in the Oxford Deanery in 2008.  His burns training commenced at St. Andrew’s Centre for Plastic Surgery and Burns, Chelmsford and eversince he has demonstrated a commitment in the subspecialty of burns.

Mr Goutos has achieved numerous publications in peer reviewed journals and has a particular interest in the pathophysiology and management of burns pruritus.  He is a reviewer for the two major burns journals -‘Burns’ and ‘Journal of Burn Care and Research’ as well as an associate editorial board member of the International Journal of Burns and Trauma.

He is a member of faculty at the Centre for Cutaneous Research of Barts and the London School of Medicine and Dentistry and the Course Lead for the PGCert / MSc Burn Care programme.
